About Le Faou

At the head of a tidal estuary on the edge of the Crozon peninsula in Finistère, Le Faou is a charming little Breton town, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, famous for its remarkable street of 16th- and 17th-century houses clad in grey slate. These handsome corbelled façades, their upper storeys entirely covered in scales of slate to withstand the Atlantic weather, line the main street down to the river, where at high tide the water mirrors the old church and quay in a scene of great charm. Once a busy trading port, Le Faou today is a peaceful gateway to the Armorique regional park and the wild coast of Crozon. Historic, picturesque and beautifully sited between river and hills, Le Faou is a delightful example of traditional Breton architecture and a fine stop in western Finistère.
