One of the most beautiful villages in Brittany, Locronan is a magnificent ensemble of grey granite Renaissance houses gathered around a superb central square and a great church, all so perfectly preserved that the village is a favourite backdrop for period films. Its wealth was built on sailcloth: for centuries Locronan wove the finest hemp sails for the navies of France and Europe, and the grand merchants' houses of that golden age still line its cobbled square, free of modern signs and wires.
