About Mirmande Village
Perched on a hillside overlooking the Rhône valley in the Drôme, Mirmande is a beautiful medieval village, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, saved from ruin in the early 20th century by the Cubist painter André Lhote, who fell in love with it and drew a whole community of artists to restore its old stones. Today its steep cobbled lanes wind up between honey-coloured houses draped in roses and vines to a Romanesque church crowning the hill, with sweeping views over orchards and the Rhône plain. The village retains a strong artistic soul, with galleries and workshops among its restored façades. Peaceful, luminous and beautifully preserved, wrapped in the fruit-growing countryside of the Drôme, Mirmande is a jewel of the Rhône valley and a delightful haven of art, stone and southern light.
