About Montsoreau Village
On the banks of the Loire where it meets the Vienne, Montsoreau is one of the loveliest villages of the Anjou, a Plus Beaux Villages de France famous for its splendid Renaissance château rising directly from the water's edge — the only Loire château actually built in the riverbed. Immortalised by Alexandre Dumas in his novel "La Dame de Monsoreau", the castle today houses a striking museum of contemporary art. Around it, the village's white tuffeau-stone houses and troglodyte cellars climb the slope amid vineyards producing the famed Saumur-Champigny wines. With its river views, weekend antiques market and proximity to the great abbey of Fontevraud, Montsoreau is a jewel of the Loire valley.
