On the banks of the river Loing at the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, Moret-sur-Loing is a charming medieval town that enchanted the Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley, who spent the last years of his life here and painted its church, bridge and riverside again and again. Entered through two fine medieval gateways, the old town preserves a Gothic church, old houses, a keep and ramparts, while the river, crossed by an ancient bridge and lined with willows and old mills, offers the luminous, watery views that Sisley loved.
