On the Alsace Wine Route at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile, Obernai is one of the most charming towns in Alsace, a delightful ensemble of colourful half-timbered houses, cobbled squares and old ramparts. Its lively central market place, the Place du Marché, is ringed by beautiful Renaissance buildings, a handsome belfry, an old corn hall and a picturesque six-bucket well, all overlooked by the twin spires of a neo-Gothic church. Surrounded by vineyards producing the great white wines of Alsace, the town is famous for its winstubs, its markets and its magical Christmas atmosphere.
