About Polignac Village
Just outside Le Puy-en-Velay in the Auvergne, the village of Polignac huddles beneath one of the most spectacular fortresses in France, a mighty medieval stronghold crowning a great basalt table of rock that rises sheer above the surrounding plain. The seat of the powerful Polignac family, whose influence reached the court of Versailles, the castle with its tall keep can be climbed for a breathtaking panorama over the volcanic landscapes of the Velay and the cathedral city of Le Puy.
