In the far west of Finistère, near the wild Pointe du Raz, Pont-Croix is a charming medieval town, a Petite Cité de Caractère, tumbling in steep cobbled lanes down to the river Goyen. Its jewel is the great church of Notre-Dame de Roscudon, whose elegant Gothic spire — a masterpiece that inspired the twin towers of Quimper cathedral — rises above the old stone houses. Picturesque stepped streets with evocative names, such as the Grande Rue Chère, wind between medieval and Renaissance façades, artisan workshops and quiet squares. Once an important market town of the Cap Sizun, Pont-Croix retains a strong sense of its long history and Breton character. Historic, picturesque and beautifully preserved, close to the dramatic coast of western Finistère, Pont-Croix is a delightful and authentic town at the very edge of Brittany.
