About Puycelsi Village
Rising on a rocky spur above the great Grésigne forest in the Tarn, Puycelsi is a superb fortified hilltop village, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, still ringed by its medieval ramparts and gateways. Within the walls, a maze of narrow lanes winds past half-timbered and stone houses, a fortified church and old fortified granaries, all wonderfully preserved and draped in flowers. From its terraces and battlements, magnificent panoramas sweep across the forest, the vineyards of Gaillac and the valley of the Vère far below. Once a stronghold that resisted sieges in the Middle Ages, Puycelsi retains a powerful sense of its warlike past while breathing the peace of the countryside.
