About Saint-Émilion

In the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, Saint-Émilion is one of the most beautiful and famous wine villages in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage site whose golden limestone houses tumble down a slope entirely surrounded by the vines that produce its celebrated red wines. Its greatest wonder lies underground: a vast monolithic church, carved entirely out of the rock by monks in the Middle Ages, one of the largest of its kind in Europe, alongside catacombs, cloisters and a hermit's cave. Steep cobbled lanes lined with wine merchants, bakeries selling the famous macarons and terraces overlooking the vineyards make wandering here a delight. Historic, gastronomic and magnificently sited amid its grand cru vineyards, Saint-Émilion combines exceptional heritage with world-class wine — a jewel of the Gironde and an essential stop on any tour of Bordeaux.
