About Wissembourg

In the far north of Alsace, on the German border along the little river Lauter, Wissembourg is a beautiful and historic town that grew up around a great medieval abbey. Its charming old town preserves a wealth of colourful half-timbered houses, some of the oldest in Alsace, lining flower-decked streets and canals, overlooked by the imposing Gothic church of Saints-Pierre-et-Paul, one of the largest in the region. Old ramparts, fine Renaissance houses and picturesque riverside corners add to its appeal, while the surrounding vineyards and Northern Vosges hills frame the town in greenery. Steeped in Alsatian heritage, gastronomy and border history, and famous for its lively autumn festival, Wissembourg is a delightful and often overlooked jewel of northern Alsace, a perfect blend of half-timbered charm, history and Franco-German culture.
