About La Montagne des Singes
At Kintzheim in Alsace, on a wooded hillside beneath a ruined castle, La Montagne des Singes offers an unforgettable encounter with some 200 Barbary macaques roaming free across 24 hectares of forest. Visitors walk a single path straight through the monkeys' own habitat, meeting these gentle, endangered apes at close quarters as they climb, groom and play among the trees, and may even hand them a piece of popcorn provided at the entrance. Far from cages, the animals live in near-natural conditions, and the park is deeply involved in the conservation of this threatened North African species, having reintroduced many to the wild. Magical, moving and utterly unlike a conventional zoo, La Montagne des Singes is one of the most delightful family attractions in Alsace.
