About Zoo de La Palmyre
One of the most famous and best-loved zoos in France, the Zoo de La Palmyre sits amid the pines of the Arvert peninsula on the Atlantic coast near Royan. Founded in 1966, it is home to some 1,600 animals of over a hundred species, spread through 18 hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens where paths wind between lakes, waterfalls and lush plantings. Visitors meet giraffes, lions, polar bears, red pandas, big cats and a celebrated troop of chimpanzees, as well as flamingos, penguins and playful sea lions whose shows delight the crowds.
